Daria has time to do many things - she is an interpreter from Turkish, co-founder of the cafe "Squat 17b yard cafe" and a tattoo artist. Her studio "Little Mrs. Darya Tattoo" is already about 5 years old. Delo.ua figured out which start-up capital will be needed to open a salon, why you need to be extremely careful when working with each client and what channels of advertising are most effective.

Daria, can you tell me where did your hobby begin with tattoos?

I graduated from the institute (Turkish philology), entered postgraduate studies and started working in a digital agency. At some point I realized that I was doing the wrong thing. Just my husband and I traveled to India and talked about creativity and plans. I've been drawing for many years, since childhood I've liked to copy characters from Japanese animation. I shared my desires: they say, I want to continue drawing, but that these drawings are visible to many, so that they can be touched. And so the idea arose to learn the profession of a tattoo artist. Now speak tattoo artist, sonorous and capacious, and beautiful.

How did the training take place?

I studied with the guys in the studio, which I found by accident. They taught me badly, they were not the courses the beginner needs. I came to the class, and the master said: "Well, ask." What questions can there be for a person who does not know anything yet? None. I understood that the level after these courses is very mediocre, and I began to look for additional information: video lessons, advice of familiar masters, forums. That helped.

As for prices for training, they are very different on the market. Now for my course I take 7 500 UAH, there are prices and higher. When I was studying, it cost me 4 500 UAH. And at that time there were courses for 12-15 thousand UAH.

What was the first tattoo you made?

The first tattoo I made to a friend, he trusted the beginning master. We developed a black-and-red graphic sketch: the head of a bear and crossbones. I'm proud that until now it looks good.

Did you have a business plan? What initial investments did you need to open?

No, I did not make a business plan. My husband helped me a lot, explained where the capital investments are, where the current costs are. I wrote everything on the tablet, which he made for me. Actually, if it was not for her husband, the idea of the studio would not have come to life. He bought the necessary things, brought an armchair, chairs, helped to equip the workplace at home, and then in my first studio in Podol. And he always believed in me, and it was very moral support. The initial investment was money donated to us for the wedding.

We invested about 12 thousand UAH. At first I worked at home, so I did not have to pay rent.

For the first tattoo machine I gave 2,500 UAH, for the power unit - 1,500 UAH, for the pedal and clip-cord - about 700 UAH. About these purchases, I can only say that the master who sold them to me, earned excellent money on the newcomer. It was junk: the machine is very heavy, the unit is old and bulky. The armchair cost about 2 000 UAH. Plus a lamp, chair, table, consumables (needles, holders, nozzles, paint, barrier protection, sterilization and disinfection means). Then it was all worth the other money than now. It was bought in China and the US, and very depended on the dollar.

Was it personal money?

Yes, our family money. My husband helped me than he could. And once again I want to emphasize how important is the support of a loved one: while I was studying, he fully provided for the family.

Do I have to prepare any documents for the opening of the tattoo studio?

Ideally, you need to formalize the FOP with the corresponding KVEDom - "Інші індивідуальні послуги", not even "діяльність салонів краси". The premises and tools must comply with sanitary norms. It's great to learn from medical courses - you deal with blood, allergies, dermatitis, sometimes infections. People can not warn about allergies, keep silent about something, and you can get into an unpleasant situation.
